Free holidays for NHS staff

NHS staff are being offered free holiday accommodation by several companies in the UK, Europe and even on the idyllic Caribbean island of Nevis once they are able to travel again.

Two social media campaigns, #treatournhs and #mytravelpledge have been launched to encourage B&Bs, hotels and self-catering accommodation providers to offer up their properties for free to frontline workers.

So far, more than 100 properties are being offered free or at a discounted rate to NHS staff by companies using the treatournhs hashtag on Instagram, while 17 properties in the Spanish region of Andalucia are offering free accommodation on the My Travel Pledge website. Tours and airport transfer businesses are also offering freebies on the site and two donors have offered to cover the cost of two flights.

Separately, family-owned boutique hotel Oualie Beach Resort in Nevis (above) is offering a week’s free accommodation to 20 frontline staff and their partners. “Many of our Resort’s clients are from the UK and we are saddened by the daily devastating news of loss of life and loss of livelihoods,” said managing director John Yearwood. “The courage of the frontline staff of the NHS in risking their own health to save lives is truly inspiring and deserves recognition.”

“Once our borders re-open and quarantine restrictions on incoming travellers are lifted, we look forward to welcoming NHS staff for a free well-deserved vacation in the sun,” added director Karen Peterson-Yearwood.

Also, luxury tour operator Original Travel is offering a holiday for two worth £10,000 as part of free to enter competition for NHS staff, with other prizes worth a total of £50,000 donated by luxury brands, including spa breaks and hotel accommodation.

      1. Thanks Linsey. It’s incredibly heart-warming to see how many people are helping right across the UK…and overseas! We’re helping second home owners who are not on social media to make a donation. Also, if there are holiday rental companies or hotels that want to help but just have too much on their plate with the fallout from Covid-19, we can help there too. All they need to do is send details of their donation to [email protected] and we’ll do the rest. Thanks!
