Aye Aye Captain Barlow
Wow, Take That frontman Gary Barlow set pulses racing last week when he announced on his Instagram account that he was going to be the musical director for P&O Cruises’ newest ship, Iona.
Steady your beating hearts though, the Rule the World singing won’t be performing on every Iona cruise, he will only actually appear on two voyages this year.
So what are the chances of being serenaded by one of Britain’s best-known singers on your cruise?
After performing at the ship’s naming ceremony in Southampton on July 4, Gary Barlow will join guests on a cruise of the Norwegian Fjords on August 29 and a cruise to Spain and Portugal on October 31. Both will leave from Southampton.
In his role as musical director of the 710 Club on the new P&O flagship, the multi-talented Gary, who is also a producer and songwriter, will be bringing other up-and-coming musicians to the late night bar.
Cruises president Paul Ludlow said Gary “will bring his vision and personality to our new The 710 Club, from guiding the resident band, selecting future performers and playlists and even shaping the interiors and signature cocktails”.
Gary said: “I want The 710 Club to be a celebration of great music and great talent. As its musical director, I want to give a unique experience for people who love music as much as I do.
“Music has been such a massive part of my life – and taken me on so many journeys and adventures. I’m hoping to pass this on to all the guests in my club.”
