Speculation is growing that Norwegian Cruise Line is planning to join other cruise lines in offering sailings around the UK this summer.
Blogger Dave Monk reported on his website Shipmonk today that NCL has suspended ‘select voyages’ on five ships: Norwegian Encore, Jewel, Jade, Joy and Gem.
At the same time, NCL has posted a message on its website saying that it will have ‘some exciting news to share very soon”.
The cruise line told Shipmonk: “We continue to evaluate the viability of sailing select itineraries aboard the various vessels within our fleet. At this time, we are cancelling select voyages and will soon announce a revised deployment schedule.
“Given the fluid and evolving nature of the circumstances, we are making decisions as quickly and thoughtfully as possible, continuing to keep our guests’ and travel partners’ best interests at heart. We will share additional updates as they are available.”
NCL’s comments have led to speculation that it might offer cruises around Britain, following news that Fred. Olsen, P&O Cruises, Princess, MSC Cruises and Viking will offer UK sailings this summer.
TUI’s cruise line Marella has also confirmed that it is planning to offer some UK cruises during 2021.
Alternatively, NCL might move ships to sail from islands in the Atlantic, says Shipmonk, following in the wake of Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Crystal.
When will cruises restart?
All cruises from the UK are currently banned. The ban on domestic cruises could be lifted in England on 17 May, but this has yet to be confirmed.
Also, the Government has yet to say when it expects to remove its advice against ocean cruises, which has been in place since last summer.
