WTH? Weirdest travel story of the week

You’ll never believe this…

Six tourists have been arrested in Machu Picchu, one of the world’s most famous attractions, after allegedly sneaking into the Temple of the Sun overnight…and pooing in the sacred site.

The six tourists, from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and France, apparently wanted to sleep in the temple but visitors are banned from the archaeological site after dark.

They have been accused of ‘damaging cultural heritage’ and one of them, Argentine Nahuel Gomez, is facing up to four years in prison after he allegedly admitted removing a stone from the temple.

The other five will be deported.

Machu Picchu, which is close to Cuzco in Peru, is considered to be the most important site from the days of the empire. Several thousand tourists hike the Inca Trail to the ruins every year.
